How to Apply False Lashes: A Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

False lashes can instantly elevate any look — from a subtle everyday flutter to full-on glam. If you've ever struggled with application, you're not alone! With a little practice and the right technique, you'll be a lash pro in no time. Here's everything you need to know.

What You'll Need

  • Your favourite pair of false lashes
  • Lash adhesive (we love our EnvyEyes Lash Adhesive for a strong, comfortable hold)
  • Tweezers or a lash applicator
  • Small scissors
  • Eyeliner (optional, to blend)

Step 1: Measure and Trim

Hold the lash strip up to your eye before applying any glue. The lash should start just above your inner corner and end at your outer corner. If it's too long, trim from the outer edge — never the inner corner, as that's where the natural taper is.

Step 2: Apply the Adhesive

Apply a thin, even layer of lash glue along the band of the false lash. Less is more — too much glue leads to a messy application. Wait 30–45 seconds for the glue to become tacky before placing the lash. This is the most important step beginners skip!

Step 3: Position and Press

Looking down into a mirror (not straight ahead), place the lash as close to your natural lash line as possible. Start by anchoring the centre, then press down the inner and outer corners. Use tweezers or your fingertip to gently press the band flush against your lid.

Step 4: Blend and Finish

Once the glue is dry, use your fingers or tweezers to gently press your natural lashes and the false lashes together. Apply a thin line of eyeliner along the band to conceal it and create a seamless finish. Finish with a coat of mascara to blend everything together.

Pro Tips

  • Curl your natural lashes first so they blend seamlessly with the false ones.
  • Apply lashes after eyeshadow but before mascara for the cleanest look.
  • Use a lash applicator tool if tweezers feel tricky — it gives you more control.
  • Don't rush the glue drying time. Patience here makes all the difference.

Removing Your Lashes

Always remove lashes gently! Soak a cotton pad with oil-free makeup remover and press it against the lash band for a few seconds to loosen the glue. Peel from the outer corner inward — never yank or pull. Clean any residual glue off the band and store your lashes in their original case to reuse them.
